2023 What’s happening – Late June & Early July
What’s happening? Well, the 2023 season started with all the guests enjoying great fishing close to the lodge at the Wall, Dome & Dowling Point. The catches of Chinook/kings exceeded our expectations & delighted our guests. The fishing clinic at the start of everyone’s trip was helpful to our guests new to the lodge & a reminder to all guests of the importance of keeping tight lines & the rod tip up. Brent brought in a 36 ½ pounder but mostly the weights of the Chinook/kings were around 22lbs. When guests had their limit of 4 Chinook/kings (2 per day) on their fishing licence its was time to add coho/silvers. Declan managed a 15 pounder which is the biggest so far this season. For those of you who have yet to book your fishing adventure with us, please be reminded that by mid-August the Northern Coho/silvers can reach well over 20lbs & provide some very exciting action.
Finally, the bottom fishing produced some nice size lingcod & halibut. Long time guests Allen & Sharon with Rico as guide brought in a 23 lbs halibut. Allen has his recipes all ready for when he gets home.
About travel to the lodge…Most of our guests come into the lodge DIRECT on Seair Seaplanes from Vancouver. However, we do have 6 spots available to travel via Vancouver to Port Hardy on Thursdays & Sundays & then enjoy the flight into Rivers Inlet on the Grumman Goose seaplane. This was the route all our guests came into the lodge on for 30 years & is still the preferred route by several past guests.
