Fishing Grounds
Location, location, location. It sounds a bit cliché but we have it hands down! The Sportsman’s Club is the closest lodge to the best and most consistent fishing in Rivers Inlet. We have world-class trophy salmon and bottom fishing only minutes from the lodge. We are able to provide this proximity by towing our lodge from its protected winter moorage each season into Sportsman’s Bay at the ocean end of Rivers Inlet. From our summer moorage we access (only minutes away) many nearby trophy salmon fishing spots including Kevin’s Corner, Bull Island, Major Brown Rock, The Wall, The Dome & Cranstown Point to name a few. When the fish are not right there on our doorstep, we travel 15 minutes across Fitz Hugh Sound to Calvert Island. Here is the “salmon highway” where we find the fish that are not necessarily destined for Rivers Inlet but are migrating to the hundreds of other rivers systems all down the Pacific northwest coast. This proximity to the fishing grounds affords our lodge guests flexibility in their daily fishing schedule. Our guests don’t need to be out on the water all day. Due to our proximity to the best fishing spots, guests are able to come & go from the lodge for meals, re-provisioning, or simply taking a quick break from the fishing action Most guests head back out to fish after dinner for the “night bite” & to catch the sunset. The other great feature about our fishing grounds is that the waters in Rivers Inlet are calm & protected. Some days when you are fishing in your t-shirt you will think you are on a lake until you see a whale breaching just off the bow of your boat, or your rod tip buried with the tug of a giant salmon.
We all had a great time. I really enjoyed the hospitality & openness of the staff. The food was wonderful & the deck hands kept us ready to go. For my dad, who I was worried that he may tire easily, the close access to the fishing grounds & flexibility of the use of the boats worked out great. The flights were wonderful & setting for the lodge & fishing were great.
