PLAN YOUR DREAM FISHING VACATION TODAY!
We can’t believe that it is already December! With both Canadian & Thanksgiving behind us, we head full force into the holiday season. We were lucky enough to attend a recent industry event in Vancouver & were buoyed by the enthusiasm of the attendees. It was the Annual Policy Conference & Fundraiser for the Sport Fishing Institute of BC (SFI). The SFI is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting, enhancing & protecting sustainable sport fishing opportunities in BC. Members & attendees at the event were a group of public fishing industry stakeholders including recreational fisherman, charter operators, fishing lodges, boat, motor & tackle suppliers. Most importantly, there were representatives & presentations from the Department of Ocean & Fisheries (DFO), federal & provincial politicians & key government staff.
The SFI was established in 1980 as the voice of the sport fishing industry in dealings with the government & DFO. Back then the DFO management & policy was focused on the commercial fishery that it had been created to manage. With the burgeoning interest in sport fishing, the SFI was integral in getting & keeping voice of the public fishery heard. Many of the goals the SFI had from when Simon was a director have been achieved, so there is a proven track record for success. The best measure of this is the liberal catch limits for salmon, halibut & lingcod that we are still so privileged to enjoy in Rivers Inlet. Coming off a record summer of fishing for us, & it seems most operators coastwide, the future has never looked brighter for the sport fishing industry. And the health of the salmon populations in general, so this is especially good news for our customers. Expectations are already running high for another amazing season in 2024. The abundant returns the last few years in a row are continuing to provide excellent fishing opportunities. Along with the general enthusiasm & optimism, there is lots of money going into hatcheries & habitat conservation. This includes a recent donation of $10,000 to salmon conservation made by RISC guests.
Book now for summer 2024 & be part of the fantastic fishing & adventures that await you in Rivers Inlet. The dream is still alive so make yours come true this holiday season!
