It’s that time of year when we all think of what we’d like to be doing during the summer & start making plans. Many of our readers have already decided that it’s time to go fishing & have booked their trip with us for this summer. And what better place than the Rivers Inlet Sportsman’s Club (RISC) to help us celebrate our 40th year of operation! This time 40 years ago, I was preparing for the first Sportsman’s Club season by applying to the various provincial & federal governments for permission to operate. The floats & buildings were being constructed, boats & equipment purchased, staff hired & trained, & by June our first guests arrived. One of our first trophy Chinook/King salmon was a 54 pounder landed at the ‘Wall’ minutes from the lodge, where most of the really big that make Rivers Inlet renown are caught. Recent statistics from the Canadian Department of Fisheries & Oceans (DFO) support this fact, along with other areas close by such as The Dome, Cranston Point & Kevin’s Corner.
