A Note from Lodge Owner Barbara Kelly on 40 Years of RISC

Family with salmon.

Big Chinook salmon put us on the map, nonstop coho action keeps our guests busy & happy. Three Generations of the Ruge family come every summer on their annual vacation.

It’s that time of year when we all think of what we’d like to be doing during the summer & start making plans. Many of our readers have already decided that it’s time to go fishing & have booked their trip with us for this summer. And what better place than the Rivers Inlet Sportsman’s Club (RISC) to help us celebrate our 40th year of operation! Long-time guest Mike McG. who fished all over the coast before he found our lodge said it succinctly, “I tried the rest & came back to the best.” If you haven’t booked your 2023 fishing trip yet, contact us today. This time 40 years ago, I was preparing for the first Sportsman’s Club season by applying to the various provincial & federal governments for permission to operate. The floats & buildings were being constructed, boats & equipment purchased, staff hired & trained, & by June our first guests arrived. One of our first trophy Chinook/King salmon was a 54 pounder landed at the ‘Wall’ minutes from the lodge, where most of the really big that make Rivers Inlet renown are caught. Recent statistics from the Canadian Department of Fisheries & Oceans (DFO) support this fact, along with other areas close by such as The Dome, Cranston Point & Kevin’s Corner.

If you have not already done so, & to ensure you get the dates to fit your calendar of events, do book your fishing trip today & dream of the fish you will catch at the Sportsman’s Club. Not only giant Chinook salmon, but coho/silvers, halibut & lingcod as well. We hope to see you in 2023.
Sincerely, Barbara Kelly/Owner.
